Fundamentals of Pistol Marksmanship I

PREREQUISITE: NONE

This course is everything pistol shooters, with some experience, needs to know about the application of the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship and safe gun handling.  We’ll continue to reinforce the fundamentals of marksmanship while introducing you to multiple target engagements. Students will walk away with proficiency in engaging multiple targets and pistol drills to take home for continued practice on your local range. This course is well suited for self/home defense, competitors, and first responders. Students attending this course should be able to verify that they have attended a basic pistol course or training where they have demonstrated proficiency with a handgun and safe gun handling procedures with live ammunition.

COURSE TOPICS

  • Gun safety 
  • Familiarization with semi-auto pistol operation with iron or red dot sights
  • Fundamentals of marksmanship: grip, stance, sight alignment/sight picture, trigger control and breathing
  • Multiple target engagements 
  • Shooting strong hand/support hand only 
  • Shooting drills that will reinforce the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship

EQUIPMENT LIST

  • Pistol (rentals available with advance notice) 
  • Magazines (2 min, 3 ideal)
  • Magazine pouches 
  • Sturdy belt (belt or competition or duty/tactical rig) 
  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection
  • 800 rounds of 9mm ball ammunition

***Any of the above items can be rented/provided with advance notice. Recommend bringing a ball cap, water bottle with cap/cover, comfortable weather-appropriate clothing (can be warm or cool on the range depending on individual comfort level), sunscreen, and bug repellent.

11 Helmet: recommend a helmet that you will be expected to use in your daily duties such as an OPSCORE or Team Wendy helmet. The Bump helmet version from these two vendors is also recommended. Fall rated climbing helmets designed for rock/mountain climbers are more than acceptable if they’re in your inventory but not required.

13 Holster should cover/protect the trigger and cover the pistol barrel/slide if it is an inside/outside waistband holster (IWB/OWB) and be worn from 3-9 o’clock position (clear of the front of the body when worn).
