PREREQUISITE: Fundamentals of Pistol Marksmanship

16 HRS / 2 days 

This course is everything an experienced shooter needs to know about safe gun handling and basic marksmanship while stepping it up a notch. We’ll continue to focus on the fundamentals of marksmanship, while moving onto more practical multiple-target engagements, shooting and moving, shooting while moving and shooting from behind cover/barricades. This course is well suited for self/home defense, competitors, LE/first responders, Security Professionals, and U.S. Military personnel. Students attending this course should be able to verify that they have attended/received fundamental pistol training/course where they have demonstrated proficiency with a handgun and safe gun handling procedures with live ammunition.

COURSE TOPICS

  • Gun safety 
  • Familiarization with semi-auto pistol operation with iron or red dot sights
  • Fundamentals of marksmanship: grip, stance, aiming 
  • Movement to/from shooting positions 
  • Shooting while moving 
  • Shooting from behind cover/barricades 
  • Shooting strong hand/support hand only 
  • Shooting drills that will reinforce the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship

EQUIPMENT LIST

  • Pistol (rentals available with advance notice) 
  • Magazines (3 ideal, more if you have them)
  • Magazine pouches 
  • Pistol holster (OWB preferred) 
  • Sturdy belt (sturdy belt, competition or duty/tactical rig) 
  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection
  • 800 rounds of ammunition (9mm usually available at the range, call first)

***Any of the above items can be rented/provided with advance notice. Recommend bringing a ball cap, water bottle with cap/cover, comfortable weather-appropriate clothing (can be warm or cool on the range depending on individual comfort level), sunscreen, and bug repellent.

A modified shooting position may be substituted for those who have a disability or functional limitation regarding a particular shooting task. 2 For firearms classes only: recommend wearing two types of hearing/ear protection for indoor ranges: the foam type earplug and an over the ear earmuff type with noise cancelling and hearing enhancement capabilities (i.e., Cordova brand Encore Ear Plugs Corded Disposable and the Peltor Sport Tactical 100 Electronic Hearing Protector)

Outside the waistband (OWB) pistol holsters should also have an adjust tension or at least a single retention feature to hold your pistol securely in your holster when firing from any static or moving shooting position (i.e., kneeling, standing, prone, moving, etc.,). 10 Helmet:; for Emergency Evacuation/Egress, CQB (LE/Mil) and tactics (LE/Mil) classes only: recommend a helmet that you will be expected to use in your daily duties such as an ballistic OPSCORE or Team Wendy helmet. The Bump helmet version from these two vendors are also recommended/optional. Fall rated climbing helmets designed for rock/mountain climbers are more than acceptable if they’re in your inventory but not required.

12 For firearms classes only: Holster should cover/protect the trigger and cover the pistol barrel/slide if it is an inside/outside waistband holster (IWB/OWB) and be worn from 3-9 o’clock position (clear of the front of the body when worn).
